Workers’ Compensation Working Group Completes Work – The State Chamber’s Workers’ Compensation Working Group has finished work on a project to restructure Oklahoma’s workers’ compensation system. Working weekly for the past ten months, the Workers’ Compensation Working Group has now finished a draft bill that I believe we can all be proud of. A diverse group of individuals served on this Working Group. We had doctors, chiropractors, insurance company executives, legislators, business leaders, small business owners, certified workplace medical plan managers, former Workers’ Compensation judges…and even a workers’ compensation lawyer. To access the draft legislation, click here. To access the overview of the bill, click here.

Two Great Budget Opportunities - As 2010 approaches and business prospects are increasing, how do you plan for your salary administration budget? The State Chamber has two economical opportunities:
First, The State Chamber has just released the 2009 Oklahoma Compensation & Benefits Survey™ for purchase. This comprehensive survey reports compensation data from 119 companies covering more than 22,500 employees in 207 jobs across the State. Click here for more information.
Second, attend one of two 2009 Basic Compensation Workshops planned for Tulsa on January 27th and Oklahoma City on January 28th. These workshops were originally scheduled for November, please make note of the new dates! This workshop will guide you through the Survey and provide detailed instruction on how to structure your company’s compensation plan to meet the market demand and administer a performance based salary budget. Click here for more information.
This workshop should be attended by human resource and compensation professionals, as well as office managers, accounting managers and small business owners desiring a better understanding of Oklahoma compensation trends and how to apply the data to their business needs. Five (5) HRCI pre-approved credit hours have been applied for.

New NOL Law To Help Businesses – Legislation signed into law last week by President Obama contains language that will temporarily assist struggling companies. The Worker, Homeownership, Business Assistance Act (HR 3548), included Net Operating Loss (NOL) tax relief. This temporary relief will allow struggling companies to get quick cash refunds from the IRS by using either their 2008 or 2009 losses to offset taxes paid the past five years. All-sized companies can take advantage of the new law. Questions? Contact Monica McGuire, Senior Policy Director, Taxation; National Association of Manufacturers – 202/637-3076 or mmcguire@nam.org.
